back to The Goddess Meenakshi and Her Temple at Madurai by Johanna Stuckey

The Sacred Marriage of Meenakshi and Sundareshwara (Shiva) carved on the wall of the great temple at Madurai. Meenakshi is in the middle, on her left her consort and on her right the god Vishnu, who, as her brother, is giving her away at the ceremony. Note that it is the goddess who has been the recipient of most of the ritual (as evidenced by butter and colored powder).
